Early in the morning, great aunt was playing with Mimi with little tennis balls. She would put them down, said 踢, and kicked it to Mimi. Mimi would gently kick it back, and they had a little soccer match.
Jiu po found some Styrofoam traffic cones for the girls to play with. Mimi called them "画笔". Xiao E had been turning on Jackie's computer every morning.
We went to the dole pineapple plantation. The girls wandered the grounds and saw the tour train. They ran up the hill and played with some leaves very nicely. Ba ba brought back some pineapple sorbet and everyone sat down and had a snack. The girls chomped away, when a stray cat approached. The girls then stopped eating and focused on the cat. They watched the cat with such attention, and said "hi". But the cat wouldn't come much closer. Eventually the cat left and the girls went back to eating again.
The we went to get garlic shrimp. The girls had some garlic rice. They were more interested in the birds and chicken running around. A chicken started cocking and the girls squeaked with excitement.
At a nearby beach, the girls sat and played in the sand. They loved grabbing the sand. Mimi would grab two handfuls and smash them together. Then she started throwing sand in the air and into her hair. Ella followed and we had two sand covered babies. They looked at the waves washing on the stormy shore. They resisted their sand cleaning, we had to hose them down. So much sand in their hair and clothes.
The girls were taken to another couple beaches to snack and wild. At one beach there was a lot of birds. Mimi chased them in the wind. On another beach there was a horde of chickens. The chickens ran very fast into the bush whenever Mimi went near. Xiao E was also excited about the creatures but seemed to be more overwhelmed by the wind and didn't like to chase when prompted. Xiao E on a few occasions looked up the mountains and said "木头", "好多木头". Possibly referring to mu tou trees?
Later we went to a nice Japanese temple. The girls rang a giant bell by pulling back a log and releasing it to ring. They went into the temple, took off their shoes, and saw a giant buddha statue. Mimi called it a "大人儿". We got some fish food and fed the koi. Ella threw pieces of it at the fish and watched them jump at the food. Mimi helped too, but she wasn't as good at throwing it as Ella. It mostly fell on the floor. Then they gave some of the food to the birds. Ella grabbed fistfuls of gravel and threw them at the birds, like she would throw fish food. The birds ate from ba ba's hand, but Mimi was too afraid of the birds and wouldn't hold the food in her hands.
Mimi said bye too all the animals while the adults lead her away. Bye bye 鱼鱼. Bye bye 鸡鸡. There was a tuxedo cat at the temple. Mimi said bye bye 黑白猫.
At diaper change the adults discovered a looooot of sand. After lots of wiping, their butts were still stuck with sand.
There was a small temple area that was scenic so we took a stop to take photos. But then we were beset by an army of stray cats. The girls chased them around yelling "猫!猫!猫!猫!". The cats did not like it and scattered wherever the girls chased.
Later was dinner at great uncle's house. Uncle Jackie and uncle David were over and played with the girls a lot. Mimi took the kitchen timer and thought it was a phone, walking around going "喂喂". She would hand the phone to ba ba and say "有电话", and ba ba would ask for who it was, and Mimi would always say "姥姥". Ba ba would pick it up and have a pretend conversation and then Mimi would claim the phone back.
Jackie ge ge would ask for high fives. Mimi would refuse. Jackie ge ge would pretend to cry. Mimi would stare. When asked for a hug Mimi would walk close. Then step back. Then step forward. Then step back. Jackie would ask for high five again. Mimi would quickly slap high five and fast clap with stern face. Xiao e had no interest in anything. Except when Mimi high fived, xiao E also would shuffle over and slightly raise her hand. Jackie would then offer high five. Xiao E would high five and happy troll slouch walk away. They repeated many times.
David got some dried pears. He torn off a small piece and looked at xiao E. Xiao E looked so intensely. David extended his hand, xiao E tentatively ate the piece. Xiao E continued to eat a few pieces. Mimi noticed xiao E eating, also came over and looked intently. Mimi also received pear piece.
Jackie pulled out the chocolate cake and asked if the girls wanted any. Mimi looked intensely and licked her lips. But refused to say anything. She was offered cake.
Ba ba read cat in the hat in English for the girls. When the cat fell from the ball, xiao E screamed "猫猫掉oo 猫猫掉oooooo". Then when ba ba continued the story xiao E quietly said "Mimi 掉". When the cat came with a box, xiao E yelled "打开!".
